Materials for packaging

3. Flexible packaging materials

3.1. Top lidding films

Top lidding films are used to cover and seal thermoformed rigid trays and can be used in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) or vacuum skin packaging (VSP). Although they are thin and lightweight, they seal well and provide a good barrier. They can be conditioned to be anti-fogging. That means moist or heated products can breath under such a cover without the film becoming foggy, so that the food is still clearly visible. These films are mostly used to pack convenience meals or fresh meat.
