3.5. APET metallized films

APET metallized films are made from APET to which a thin layer of metal, such as aluminum, has been applied on the surface of the film. This process imparts specific properties and characteristics to the film, giving it a shiny, reflective appearance and excellent barrier properties against moisture, oxygen, and light. This makes it a choice material for luxury products, or those which need protection especially from UV-light, like nuts or moisture, like freeze-dried powders or crisps. Like other multilayer films, metallized film is difficult to recycle and therefore not an eco-friendly packaging solution.
