1. Discovering a Business Model
Module 1- Chapter 2: The Business Model Canvas
The nine “building blocks” of the business model design template that came to be called the Business Model Canvas were initially proposed in 2005 by Alexander Osterwalder.
This module will guide you step by step through the process of thinking through a business idea to ensure it is a valid business model. Do not skip any of the steps but take your time to tink through the tasks carefully and thoroughly. This chapter lays the foundation for everything else that you will learn in this e-internship. Have your personal notebook at hand and keep writing down your thoughts and reflections in the process.
2. Introduction
Business models provide the framework for understanding how a business creates and captures value, including what products or services it offers, how it makes money, and how it distributes its products and services. They are also used to identify and analyze the competitive landscape, identify customer needs, generate ideas for products and services, and develop a growth strategy.
The business model provides the 'logic' behind a business idea and ensures that it can indeed be turned into a viable business.
Looking at the logic of a business model can also help existing businesses to identify aspects of the business that are problematic and need to be improved or changed.
3. Jobs along the Agrifood Value Chain
A strong company begins with self-awareness and a clear shared vision. This week of your internship lays the foundation for everything you will build on in the weeks ahead.
Before you start describing your virtual company's business model, have a look at different jobs and businesses along the agrifood value chain and see if you can place your virtual company somewhere.
