Crystallisation In Food Examples

Idea

In terms of business, an idea can relate to a new concept of product or service that will typically be exchanged for money.

Idea Generation

Idea generation, also known as ideation, is the process of generating, developing and communicating new business ideas.

Idli

Idli is an Indian desert, made from a fermented mixed batter of rice and black gram (Phaseolus mungo), which is made into small steamed, spongy cakes. The dough is usually inocculated with some leftover dough from previous production to start the leavening process. It is then left to naturally ferment in a warm place for up to 24 hours. The fermentation process is dominated by lactic acid bacteria and yeasts.

Incubator

Organizations, programs, or spaces dedicated to assisting new startup ideas. Incubators help people create viable business plans and offer entrepreneurs all of the resources they need to grow their initiatives.

Independent contractor

A self-employed person or organization who performs work for other firms as a nonemployee. When working with an independent contractor, the payer only controls the result of the work and not how it is done. This also means that independent contractors do not receive the benefits of an employee, such as retirement plans or insurance.

Indigenous food sources

Many edible wild fruits, leafy vegetables, seeds, nuts, root and tuber crops are used as supplementary food sources around the world. They often contribute valuable nutrients to otherwise limited diets. As many are often consumed as snacks between meals, it is sometimes difficult to quantity their importance and contribution. To identify and select species that could qualify for further research and promotion, a 3-step approach (Franzel et al, 1996) can be applied:

1. Creating an inventory of edible wild plant species in a certain region through literature research, semi-structured interviews with inhabitants, where they are asked to name edible species they know of and list their uses, as well as investigation of foraged crops for sale in markets.

2. "Free-listing" (Cotton, 1996), more important crops are identified, if they are mentioned by several interviewees or are mentioned earlier in each list.

3. A sample of informants that seems to be relatively knowledgeable about indigenous foods is then asked to choose and rank their preferred 5 species in regard to their value (taste, caloric or nutritional value, medicinal value, etc.). Data from each informant is then used to calculate a total score and ranking.

Example of wild fruits ranking from Guinea's pre-forest savannahs according to the preferences of the MalinkÉ ethnic group:

Initial public offering (IPO)

The process by which a private company first sells shares of stock to the public. This allows the company to be listed on the stock exchange and raise capital from participating public investors.
